WARNING SYSTEMS CTO RECEIVES OASIS DISTINGUISHED CONTRIBUTOR
AWARD
SARASOTA, FL and HUNTSVILLE,
AL, 11 May 2009 – Warning Systems,
Inc. (WSI), provider of public alert and notification systems for emergency
management, today announced that the company’s Chief Technology
Officer, Elysa Jones, was one of three recipients of the inaugural OASIS
Distinguished Contributor award. This award was given by OASIS, the international,
not-for-profit consortium, to recognize individuals who have made an
extraordinary impact on the advancement of open standards for the global
information society.
“Warning Systems is pleased to see our CTO recognized for her
accomplishments and commitment to advancing the field of open Internet
connectivity standards for alert notification,” said Patrick Gannon,
Warning Systems’ President and Chief Operating Officer. “Elysa
is certainly a distinguished contributor to our customers’ success.”
The OASIS Distinguished Contributor award was presented to individuals
who demonstrated outstanding achievement as evangelists of the open standards
process, as recognized leaders and experts in their fields. The recipients
were cited for building consensus, promoting collaboration, and raising
the quality and breadth of OASIS technical work.
"I am deeply honored by this distinction," said Elysa Jones. "At
OASIS, I am privileged to work with some of the most intelligent, creative
individuals both in the emergency response industry and the open standards
community. I am proud of the work we've accomplished on standardizing
CAP and the EDXL suite, and
I look forward to the benefits we'll see as these standards become even
more widely adopted."
Jones was an early leader in identifying the need for common methods
and protocols for national and international alerting protocols. She
has chaired the OASIS Emergency Management Technical Committee since
2004. Under her leadership, the Committee has produced four approved
OASIS Standards (the Common Alerting Protocol (CAP) and the Emergency
Data Exchange Language (EDXL) suite of standards including EDXL-RM, EDXL-DE,
and EDXL-HAVE), and has begun work on a fifth new specification (EDXL-Situation
Reporting). Jones also sits on the Steering Committee of the OASIS Emergency
Interoperability Member Section, the Board of Directors for the Emergency
Management Forum and the Emergency Interoperability Consortium. She previously
served on the Board of Directors of the Partnership for Public Warning.
